Jenni painting outdoors

About the Artist

Jenni is a plein air artist based in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado. Jenni loves creating in any medium, but her favorite is oil painting.

Artistic Journey

Jenni received her Associates Degree from Ricks College in 2001 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brigham Young University in 2007, with church service in between. After her greatest works of creation, the birth of 5 beautiful children, she returned to painting in 2021. She attended several painting workshops in AZ given by artists of the Plein Air Painters of America and through the Scottsdale Art School, and began taking classes locally from Coni Grant, another great artist, mentor and teacher. Jenni began displaying her art locally within a couple years of returning to painting.

Inspiration

Jenni loves bright colors, thick paint, and a touch of whimsy. She loves impressionist painters and artists that surprise you and portray their subjects in unique ways like Picasso and Van Gogh.

Additionally and more personally, Jenni was inspired by both of her grandmothers. Her paternal grandmother was an elementary teacher for 40 years but spent time crafting embroidered doll clothes for her many grandchildren. She also dabbled in stained glass work and other creative endeavors. Jenni's maternal grandmother was a quilter. She never wasted a stitch of fabric and used bright colors and many different types of fabric. She was proper and conscientious in all of her work and she made hundreds of quilts. Both grandmothers were hard workers, and Jenni continues the tradition of creativity, bright colors, and excellence in the paintings she creates.

Artist Statement

“My goal is to create art that speaks to people. I don't try to recreate with exactness, but interpret my subject matter in a way that fills people with a sense of ah and beauty.”
